Amazing photos capturing the world’s biggest party are bringing a ray of sunshine to London following the success of his exhibition in Manchester last year. Terry has captured everything from the exhilaration on revellers’ faces to the sequins of their costumes and the sweat on their backs. The sheer essence of carnival, its hedonism and emotion, is expertly distilled here.

Terry, 41, a businessman who originally started taking photos purely as a hobby, was delighted when the Rio tourist board asked to use his work for promotional material. German publisher edel classics GmbH then saw them and offered Terry a book deal.
3
Film: From 25th Setember to 27th October 2002, a film crew followed Luís Inácio Lula da Silva"s step by step presidential election campaign. The film goes behind the scenes of this historic moment using exclusive material such as private conversations, strategy meetings, telephone calls, transcripts and recordings of party policies and electoral programmes. (2004)

From the favelas of São Paulo, Moleque de Rua bring to the world stage an extraordinary original sound – a unique mix of batucada, samba and other traditional Brazilian rhythms blended with rock, rap and funk. The word moleque (‘child’ in Angola’s Quimbundo language) denoted the first generation of free, street-dwelling children born to ex-slaves in Brazil and today means urchin or rascal. Led by Duda, their mentor, these former street kids paint a vivid picture of the social injustice and corruption that plague Brazil. Their art is also about creative transformation: they survive, they create, they turn dreams into reality. This will be an uplifting, funky, fantastic evening!

Deep in the drylands of the Brazilian outback, a woman comes to understand the powerful and dangerous forces that can be unleashed in others for the simple love she has for her husband

7
Brazil is bigger than Europe, with a huge, varied and exotic cultural life. This series explores the vitality of Brazilian culture in five different regions through the eyes of its artists, guided by journalist and author Alex Bellos. 1. Salvador, 2. Rio de Janeiro, 3. Manaus and Amazonia, 4. Sao Paulo, 5. The South.

The works of the Brazilian artist Carlos Muniz were described by Thomas Lawrence as a creation of "forms that are pure and resonant, stripped of decoration and detail". He adds that Carlos Muniz "presents his Minimalist works of art as objects of elemental form with the least amount of visual components, and divorced from either symbolic or personal expressions". Muniz was inspired by urban geography such as the traffic signs and roads set in infinite views. Gradually, he has replaced the brighter colours of his earlier works by softer hues. Muniz insists upon using essential and basic shapes, and by the same token, probes the more enduring character and content of the imagery, which inspired his works in the first place. Purity of the geometrical shapes meticulously distributed on the canvas is combined with hard-edge toughness. His works are modernist combined with elegance or sensuousness. The viewer is led to stand back and observe the reduced vocabulary and muted colours as a whole within the world at large. In addition, through subliminal suggestion, Muniz" works invite the viewer to ponder upon his or her own place in the universe created by the interaction of spectator and art. Carlos Muniz paints with accuracy and precision – the skills he transfers from a successful career as a plastic surgeon.
9

Film: The campaign carried out by 6 candidates during the 2004 local elections of Rio de Janeiro. This is a look at the actions of each candidate throughout the whole election process, from the party pledges right up to the ballot. We also see the reactions the day after, of the elected and the defeated candidates. In this way, the documentary aims to portray the profile of those young people hungry for power, from the very first step of their political career. (2005)
11

With a four octave countertenor that makes Jeff Buckley seem positively prosaic and a gloriously camp pop aesthetic to put Rufus Wainwright in the shade, Edson Cordeiro is a music phenomenon!
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, the young Cordeiro learned to sing in the choir of an evangelical church. His debut album (1992) revealed an eclectic repertory of Brazilian samba, R&B staples, gospel, flamenco and angelic opera arias. The mid 90s saw Cordeira embrace the hip-hop/drum "n bass scene, lending his vocal acrobatics to a triptych of clubland classics. From Montreux to Munich, his breathtaking live sets have seduced European audiences with his bravura technique and mixed diet of Mozart, Prince, Gilberto Gill and Aretha Franklin.
Imagine Freddie Mercury cross-pollinated with Maria Callas and filtered through the rebel spirit of Janis Joplin and you get somewhere close to the Edson Cordeiro enigma.
14
For many, the struggle to preserve the Amazon rain forest is about abstract notions related to global warming and climate change. But for the Kaapor people of the Brazilian Amazon it"s about food.

Brazil’s capital city and architectural phenomenon was created in the 1950’s in the space of just three years. As chief architect, Oscar Niemeyer designed almost all of Brasilia’s important buildings. The epoch of his career, these buildings mark a significant period in modern creativity.
Possibly the most intensely personal talent in architecture, Oscar Niemeyer turns 100 this year. This coincides with the half centenary of the city’s inception. As a result, these images will form the centrepiece of a wider calendar of events to celebrate one of the greatest modern creators of our time.

When Otávio’s father commits suicide, Célio arranges a meeting with Otávio, and is invited by him to participate in a scheme in the Cayman Islands, where he would receive five million dollars. However, Célio has a breakdown when his father dies, and believed God assigned him to make Otávio give away all his money on behalf of the homeless (2004)

The Brazilian artist known as Marepe (b 1970) installs a beautiful carousel complete with horses, adapted using found objects from his native Brazil, such as tin cans and recycled machines, and surrounded by tables laden with toffee apples for the public to eat.

Marepe’s work has evolved from a deep connection with the local traditions, customs and materials of Bahia, the north eastern region of Brazil and he frequently uses everyday objects imbuing these with new, poetic qualities in his artworks.

The work for Tate, which has been commissioned for UBS Openings: The Long Weekend, was inspired by what the artist describes as “a beautiful, yet precarious, Brazil”.

Film: During the seventies in Brasilia, a group of young people desperately try to escape the political acquiescence which has taken hold after the turbulent rebellion of the sixties. Coming from contrasting economic backrounds, mechanic Biela (Chico Diaz) and wealthy Silverinha (Miguel Falabella) seek the same escape route, experimenting with drugs and eventually becoming dealers. We also meet Joao Carlos (Daniel Dantas) who is trying to live independently from his family, although he still needs their financial support to continue his studies, an aspiring actess (Louise Cardosa) and Lucinha (Lucélia Santos), who is annoyed at everyone and everything. (1982)
